The Phoenix egg is one of three items that the guests at the Beauclair Palace "Hare Hunt" were supposed to find. Unfortunately, the hunt was interrupted by the Beast of Beauclair who had targeted the "hare", being played by Milton de Peyrac-Peyran, as his fourth victim. The Duchess Anna Henrietta, herself, obtains the egg from surprised and reluctant "hunters'. It contains the first half of the riddle revealing the hare's hiding place. The other half is found wrapped around a "unicorn's" horn.
