Oren

The Oren, or orens, is the official unit of currency in those Northern Kingdoms under Temerian rule in the time of Foltest, namely:

• Temeria
  • the principalities of Ellander and Maribor included
• Sodden
• Mahakam

Although you can find or loot money in several currencies in the game, including orens and florens, the in-game currency is the crown. So you cannot buy items from merchants with orens, but you can bring the money to Vimme Vivaldi at his bank in Novigrad and exchange it for crowns. The rate of exchange for orens to crowns is one-to-one.

The oren is still the currency in The Witcher 2, which is rather strange given the fact that a good deal of the game takes place in Aedirn, which uses the mark. The Collector's Edition of the game includes a metal replica of a Temerian Oren.
