Giambattista was a powerful mage and a member of the Novigradian Union, along with Jan Bekker and Geoffrey Monck. He was an original member of the Brotherhood of Sorcerers and one of the first to humans to master the magic of the Old races. He was the author of the book Forces of the Elements, which formed part of Ciri's curriculum under the tutelage of Yennefer in Ellander.
