Detail of the The Witcher map

Cintra is one of the Northern Kingdoms, located south of Sodden, Riverdell and the great river Yaruga.

This is Cintra. Is that right? Yes. South of Transriver and Sodden. This way, here, flows the River Yaruga, flowing into the sea right at Cintra
— pg(s). 269, Blood of Elves (UK edition)

Cintra was a powerful state during the reign of queen Calanthe, but was conquered by Nilfgaard during the First Nilfgaardian War. After the Second Nilfgaardian War, the kingdom became a nominal independent state, actually ruled by Nilfgaard's Imperator Emhyr var Emreis through his marriage to Empress Cirilla.

Cintra's neighbours are Sodden, Brugge and the Nilfgaard province of Nazair. When Emhyr var Emreis proclaimed Cirilla queen, he also named her princess of Brugge, duchess of Sodden, heir of Skellige and sovereign of Attre and Abb Yarra.

National emblems

Heraldry

first Cintra coat of arms coat of arms since Coram II speculative coat of arms during the occupation

The coat of arms of Cintra is described as three golden lions passant on an azure field. From the reign of Coram II onward, the lions were crowned. The speculative provincial coat of arms is never actually described in the books. The last coat of arms was inspired by work of our resident heraldry and Witcher expert Mboro.
