German strings file for TW2 since V2.0[]

Hi there, if you would like the file with all the German strings, i have it in XML and Excel formats (in Excel, i actually have a combined file with English, German, French and Italian). If you would like one or both of these files, just drop me an email at witcherwiki@gmail.com — Game widow (talk) 11:49, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Mail just sent :) Excel file would be cool. THX »» Dove «« 14:16, October 5, 2011 (UTC)

New Infoboxes[]

They look great! Thanks for all your hard work :) — Game widow (talk) 11:44, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that, i thought it was just someone fooling around needlessly. I've unblocked the IP address, but sometimes there can be caching issues, so do let me know if the problem persists. — Game widow (talk) 11:34, 29 August 2013 (UTC)

infobox styles[]

Hi :) We have four infobox styles at the moment - for books, for TW1, TW2 and TW3. Could you create new one for informations from The Witcher: A Game of Imagination? IMHO good colors for this are asparagus and aurometalsaurus, or arylide yellow and asparagus. How are you thinking about it? Greetings from Poland :) SMiki5five (talk) 16:36, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

I guess, you checked already my Sandbox for issues like this? I'll add there your suggested colors ASAP (will ease the choice IMHO).
Sure, I can create a new infobox + color set especially for this PnP game. But maybe we can use it also for other non-virtual games? I'll discuss this with game widow, meanwhile you can collect some datas you want to be displayed in this infobox. Deal? ;)
»»Dove«« (talk) 18:36, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
...well, I can't really say, those new color combinations are blowing my mind... Maybe I understood something wrong? Miki?
»»Dove«« (talk) 19:06, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
One infobox color to all non-virtual games? Sounds good, IMHO :) But this colors... hmmm... any suggestions? SMiki5five (talk) 19:43, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
You watched my sandbox? None of these color sets is after your fancy? I liked this one with "forest" green, and game widow too. But she is off for a while, so I'd rather like to wait for her with a decision in this matter. btw: A color set is easy to change - more important is the infobox contents, I think. Any ideas?
»»Dove«« (talk) 21:39, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Yes, "forest" green is ok ;)
Infobox contents? Maybe something like this? SMiki5five (talk) 16:15, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Hehe, wikipedia infoboxes ... would be a little overkill. But we can use a reasonable part of it. I'll show you my draft in a few hours, in my sandbox. CU there ^^ »»Dove«« (talk) 18:53, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Ready to take a look at it » new Infobox draft
(Note: I used white for the title colors, not black as shown in the color sets, and I changed the "section" style a little bit for showing what I have in mind for the "next gen" infoboxes ;) )
»»Dove«« (talk) 20:00, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
So, when new infobox is going to be in articles? :) SMiki5five (talk) 20:46, 18 October 2013 (UTC)

Not sure what you're testing, but i've played around some on the skyrim wiki:

cheers! — Game widow (talk) 00:04, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Awesome :D That's exactly what I wanted to do with tabbers ^^ (tryed it on skyrim:Master Robes of Destruction in an edited preview), i.e. the several "faces" of characters in the three Witcher games (infoboxcharacter etc.). But I don't know if AEon would love it, because of his dpl tables ... »»Dove«« (talk) 20:40, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

New quick icons for the main page[]

I moved your subject (see below) from my sandbox to my talk page here:
== New main page icons == For the life of me, i could swear i sent you a link to AEon's sandbox, but now i see no evidence of it (weird, but i do forget stuff :D ) ... anyway, do you have any comments/preferences/suggestions regarding some changes to that initial row of icons ? — Game widow (talk) 16:45, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

AEon has been playing around, and creating new icons and i can't argue with having more access points on the main page. He has some potential mock-ups in his sandbox, what do you think ? — Game widow (talk) 00:01, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

I watched it already since several days, but only in passing - you know it, I always wanted to make new icons for the main page (rather own for each game, but since the change to curse we don't have such "project pages" anymore). I'm not sure if I like them or not, or the amount... the idea and intention are good, no question. Give me still some days, so that I can have a closer look at it. :) »»Dove«« (talk) 20:40, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
AEon has created new TW3 styled icons - imho they look very promising. :D When the new wiki skin will be like that... omg ^^

New toy[]

I've added a gadget on the english wiki here. To see it, go to your Preferences, and there's a new tab called "Gadgets", then enable the one gadget you see there and then try editing any page. Let me know if you feel this would be useful on the German wiki :) .. it can be customized to "speak" German — Game widow (talk) 00:55, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Hehe, yes, you can add the "Special characters" gadget in the German wiki, too. I myself don't need it, because I switch the keyboard "language" (exspecially in Polish), but for any other language, when I or somebody else needs the charmap, it will be useful. thx :) »»Dove«« (talk) 10:18, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Good news on the images front![]

We will soon be implementing a "common image store" for all the Witcher wikis. What does this mean for you? You might ask. Basically, once the system is in place (date still to be determined, but soon!) images will only have to be uploaded once, on the English wiki and then will automatically be available on all the other language wikis. In preparation for this, if you know of any images which are only available on other language wikis, and not on the English wiki, please upload a version on the English wiki. Once the system is in place, you will still be able to upload images which are unique to a given language version on that wiki if you choose, but it will not be necessary. Also, if you do upload an image on one of the non-English wikis and give it the same name as an existing image on the English wiki, the "local" version will take precedence.

As soon as the implementation date is nailed down, I will let you know. Meanwhile, please try to make sure all images are available on the English wiki. There should be relatively few which are not already there. — Game widow (talk) 21:43, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Great news! I'll try to find such images in the German wiki and upload it asap to the English one THX :D »»Dove«« (talk) 17:07, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

TWAG image files 2nd part[]

As a reply to what we talked about here those are the images. Also I feel that they have a better chance of being used when posted here, due to higher traffic you get ;P. As for the images... They seem not to have transparency natively (black parts), I also optimized them with PngOptimizer (from 16 MB to max 4 MB), none of the quality is lost in the process. I uploaded them in case you or anyone else wishes to cut em apart into separate files and maybe upload and use on pages. There are a lot more textures in the game files of course, but I feel those are the most important. I kept the original names for the files. Have fun :D Here it goes:

Achievement icons![]

Oh man! Why did't you 1st ask for the game files :( Ok, maybe I got on the wrong foot but look:

All the achievement icons, with native transparencies and resolution, just ready to be taken, also in lossless png format :P Good job but I really do hope you would have the strength to replace the icons with those from the game file I uploaded for you. If not... maybe I'll tackle the replacement. Is there a multiple file upload feature that I might use? I tried to force a Special:MultipleUpload but seem either I can't use it or this extension is just not here. Anyway... What's your opinion on this matter? I mean reuploading as png files with transparency?
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 00:54, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Don't panic, everything is alright. Still ;) My yesterday's files are original Steam images (jpg), I'm on the opinion on Android they look a tiny bit different. That's why I put the Steam icons in a column named "Steam" - I had in mind to add a further column for Android or what ever. Same I/we can do with your "ingame files", we just have to find out from which edition they are originally (PC or Mac or iOS etc.). Well, if they aren't optical different at all (the Steam JPEGs and your's PNGs), well, this would be another question; I have to check it out, maybe we also could ask Gw for a third opinion?
The MultipleUpload, lol, once I had the same problem as you. It works like this:
  • Go to the category you want to add the files to (create a new if necessary),
  • go in "edit" mode.
  • There are several icons in the upper edition area - you have to use "Select files" (the sixth from left).
  • Choose the files you want to add (as many as you want) from your directory.
  • They will preload - now you have the chance to rename them, if necessary.
  • After this hit "Upload".
That's all :) »»Dove«« (talk) 08:30, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
OOOOh so that's the story... Sorry, I did overreact a lil' bit, I'm just weird in that way too. Though I do mean well really, maybe too well :P
The files I upload come from windows PC version (GOG). I did't compare each icon side by side but I did compare a few "on the fly" and aside from the resolution related blur there isn't any difference, or not that I can tell. Although it is worth noting that game files have more achievement icons then there are on steam. Since it is your project I won't butt in too much, so if you want to share some workload just tell me how you wanna do it and I'll help. A third opinion would always be useful, even more so from GW who, from what I see is pretty much "da boss" here :D, not to mention a skilled and knowledgeable editor.
Funny way to handle the multiple upload feature... but I do see the logic behind it. Basically it should prevent bulk upload of images without a category, which is a plus. Handling it from the category end though is kinda... counter intuitive I'd say, but I am glad there an option at least so I am not complaining :P
Thanks for understanding and for the explanation of the multi upload feature, I'll check it out!
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 16:49, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
I compared the icons and I also can't see any difference between the gog and steam icons >> I give you a "go-ahead" to extract the achievement icons as PNG with transparent background and upload them to the twag achievements category. Later we can decide to keep the former JPGs or rather delete them at all. Just let me exchange the filenames in the achievements article myself ;)
Since the number of achievements on gog and on steam are the same (=37), just put the remaining icons in the common TWAG images category; who knows, what surprise CDPR has in mind with them for us - we will be prepared ;)
And: while you're at it, please extract the monster cards from the PC version, too. Because I'd like to add them step by step to the creatures articles.
Thx for your support! :)
»»Dove«« (talk) 09:12, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
I have the icons, all 50 of them ready to upload. I have a few matters to talk through first. Is it ok for the files to be named: Twag_achievement_##.png where ## is a 2 digit numeric value? It would save me some work for me. As for the category... Maybe inside Category:The Witcher Adventure Game images — Achievements I could create a category like [[:Category:The Witcher Adventure Game images — Unused achievements]] or something like that, so that the extra files have their proper place?
Cards: I can't really extract the card images like you show on this monster card. There is no "card" per se in the files, each time during gameplay the program puts em together from parts of images overlaying that with values for stats etc, at least I think this is how it works and it is very likely. I could though, extract images like I did for siren.
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 01:02, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Yes, you can number the files as you suggested :)
In the matter of the new category I'm not sure - we can't know if this additional images are unused achievements or hidden actions for future use :/ So I'd rather prefer [[:Category:The Witcher Adventure Game images — Unused icons]]. What do you think?
There are no extra monster cards images, hmmm, interesting fact, but makes sense. So yes, crop the monster profile images as you did for the siren :) You can put them into the Category:The Witcher Adventure Game images — Bestiary. For the cards I'll find another solution, later ;)
Just one more question: are there any statistics files? You can email it to me.
thx :) »»Dove«« (talk) 08:19, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Done: Category:The Witcher Adventure Game images — Achievements (37 F) and
Done: Category:The Witcher Adventure Game images — Unused icons (13 F)
As for the rest I'll talk to you later, when I'm back cos right now I have to leave.
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 11:34, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
I am sorry but I couldn't find any stats for cards. I am sure they have to be somewhere but I just cant seem to find them. Tomorrow (14.12) I'll prolly upload the images for monsters. And to be clear, there are no monster cards as you shown, all the components are there...like a blank frame for example. There are no cards in an already assembled version, but i think all the things needed should be there. Just dont get your hopes up, putting those together by hand would be a chore - so, in theory possible but too much of a hassle the way I see it.
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 20:02, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
We don't need to waste our time with tinkering the parts together. I'll make screenshots + remove the backgrounds, that's imho the simplest way in this case. So your part is only to upload the monster images, and we're fine. :)
For the stats - the file should only be my basis of comparison. If you find the datas, perfect; if not, we'll survive it too ;)
»»Dove«« (talk) 21:16, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Yeah it would be a very time consuming thing to do, not worth it. Screenshots are a much better idea, ok maybe not better but an optimal idea - good result in a relatively short time. As for the stats. I just cant find them, I don't want to bore you with details as to why but I really looked. I think I lack knowledge in programming mainly, thats my limit. Sorry :|

I have to say though, I am really curious what are those 13 icons made for :) Such unused assets in games always make wonder. Btw, In TW1 i also snooped in the game files. Found a few funny things :) I'll upload monster images tomorrow, unless something really unexpected happens.
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 23:01, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Just wondering[]

Can usernames be changed here by sysops or Curse staff (Game widow, VaultAusir)? mnethm 16:45, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

What happened? AFAIK nobody will rename a user without permission or request, even in this case it is not easy to do. If there any problems or questions, don't hesitate to ask Game widow (I for myself am completely inexperienced in this subject, unfortunately). »»Dove«« (talk) 17:45, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Cards' screens & game files[]

I know I promised. However I have some minor problems naming some files. I didn't play the game yet so I can't tell who some of the guys are. Could you put all the TWAG monsters in their category? There should be at least 30 of them there (unless some of the human or elf looking enemies don't count), with that I could match the names with the pictures I got and name the files correctly. Or maybe at least post me a list of all the monsters?
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 19:18, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

I've met 20 of those 30 monsters till now. Every new that crosses my path I'll add to the TWAG bestiary category asap. :) »»Dove«« (talk) 20:54, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
Good you're here. I'll upload the images i am unsure of to the dropbox, share a link with you here and maybe we could name them then. Please don't go yet :P
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 23:01, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Here. Ones with number are the ones in question. Those with names are kinda ok, apart from one i named draugir, i am not sure of that one... yeah... cos it was fire elemental :P. What boggles me most is the "big Endrega" and "little Endrega", they seems to be taken from Arachas' concept art. Btw its 29 not 30 cos i skipped the siren ofc.
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 23:09, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Here are the monster cards (screenshots), some of them will answer your questions. Because my graphic tool is broken I beg you to crop the images, if you'd like to do this :) »»Dove«« (talk) 23:23, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Np, I'll get to it right away and share dropbox link so you can UL them, I mean the credit is yours :) If you stick around for while longer, I should make it in time.

Ooooaah... I got flowers <blush> :)
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 00:55, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Ok, now...

  1. Our main folder and in it:
    1. Your original files, cropped and with this frame part to the right of each card removed, 600x700 px.
    2. Your original files downscaled x2 to 300x350 px, rest like above. (in case you wanna be closer to consistent with nidhogg file size, but they look kinda... meh)
    3. Clean game file images, only 2 more need to have their names identified but I put all of em in case i made some dumb mistake

I really like the quality and sharpness on fonts of the Nidhogg screen you made. Shame the rest was in your monster 2560 resolution cos the game clearly handles it poorly :P. So, any... suggestions? Is all ok?
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 00:55, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Please, don't tell me I've played 2h for nothing yesterday o.O The Nidhogg was taken from PC, the newer ones from my tablet... Well... I'll take a closer look at it this evening. »»Dove«« (talk) 06:40, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I am not saying that :) It might be just me, I am kinda freaky in terms of spoting image quality available on wikis... I mean I've seen so many "screenshots" made with a camera (or a phone), and I'm not talking about pre release leaks or something, instead of being made with "print screen" or fraps. Poor cropping seems to be an issue of so many people too. None of that ofc applies here but I guess generally that's why my eyes tend to notice imperfections. That's just me and my deviations, each time I upload a new image I always try to make sure in any way I can that this is the best possible quality.
Whether you decide to use good images or the best possible images is up to you, both are superior to what most people are capable (or willing) of doing and as for me... I just expressed my opinion. Don't look at it as complaining or something, please.
P.S.
I divided this into another sections, seems better this way - easier to use i think. I hope you don't mind that.
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 16:18, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm completely agree with you and thank you for the hint with the images' quality. I uploaded some new screens (Gimp xcf file), hoping they'll do it better ;)
When I don't answer immediately, please be patient with me, I have to prepare the next Wichters Journal issue now ;)
PS: The latest update of TWAG has a new feature - You can have a look at the whole card deck, so it'll be easy to identify the still missed monsters.
»»Dove«« (talk) 20:49, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Good luck with the journal then, oh I think am patient so no problem :) I'll try to check it out, both your xcfs and ingame feature, if and when I can. If you need me / my help - drop me a message or something :)
Peace, Ͽ †yræl pl Ͼ 21:15, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

User blocking[]

Hi DiamondDove! Do you know if blocking by user name also blocks IPs or not? I think posting complete irrelevant spam should result in permanent user ban, but on the other hand I wouldn't want to affect any IPs in that scenario. — Gilrond (talk) 02:49, 17 February 2015 (UTC)

You're talking about Rosie, aren't you? ;) In this special case I pushed the "ban button" too early. I recognized too late, that you did it already. Sorry for this. Maybe we should revert my action, I won't be angry ;)
For the common question of banning user names / IPs - in the beginning there were some problems with permanent blocking, I was hit by this too. Usually blocking an user name does not include the IP, but I'm also not sure. Maybe we should ask Game widow?
I support to block spamming users permanently, but not IPs.

New base skin for the wiki: Hydradark[]

You may have noticed a few relatively minor changes to the skin. That's because we've moved to "hydradark" as the underlying skin. Any css changes should not be added to Mediawiki:Hydradark.css. Please let me know if anything looks wrong, but this change should help with rare elements being stark white — Game widow (talk) 21:06, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Ah, thx for the hint - I just wondered, why the TOC background has changed. I'll tell you if anything disturbs my eyes ;D »»Dove«« (talk) 21:11, 5 May 2015 (UTC)
Right you are! i didn't notice the toc, thanks for pointing it out :) — Game widow (talk) 21:25, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Gloves[]

The gloves were based on the filename provided by the game in the XML files. I actually have no idea what they're supposed to do - they might be cutscene-only or some special quest item for a fetch quest. I'll see into mass-porting of the items. :) Tagaziel (talk) 11:36, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Be careful with this "mass porting" ... i don't necessarily want existing pages overwritten — Game widow (talk) 13:35, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Eredin the Treacherous?[]

Where did you hear of this card? I've never seen it — Game widow ( talk ) 16:21, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

This, and the new Francesca Findabair card, I got via Twitter - they will come with the Hearts of Stone expansion in October 13th, as well as with the limited boxed Edition of this single Expansion.

Thanks for translating A Night to Remember :)[]

Glad you found it interesting :) A small note - I don't think woman's body was melting because of the rising sun - as known it doesn't really affect vampires that way, especially high ones. I think it was the continuous effect of the poison. — Gilrond (talk) 06:14, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Ah, I think you are right! Maybe the potion was working like an acid ... I'll add it :)»»Dove«« (talk) 07:01, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
I was talking with a CDPR quest designer - it is a bruxa, and she is burned by the sunlight.— »»Dove«« (talk) 07:28, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

UCX implementation[]

Hi! I’m Héctor, one of the Fandom Community Managers. I’m here to talk with you about the upcoming changes we will experiment on the wikis when the new UCX will be released. As a result, we’ll have to adapt the current content - mainly the design and implemented code - to ensure they’re compatible and operational.

Specifically talking, the UCX will mainly affect the Frontpage, the design (logo, background, favicon, themes), the CSS/JS used and some templates that should adapt their look to it. While the wiki will still be migrated some weeks later, I’m here to work alongside you to anticipate all the work regarding review, improvements and adaptation to the new skin.

If you agree, I’ll start soon, reviewing the mentioned elements and describing to you what work should be done. For the case of the design, I can work with the future version, that will be working once the wiki will be migrated. Regarding the frontpage, templates and the code, I can work and implement the changes now, to have them properly working both in the present and the future, but having all the changes done in advance.

Let me know if you have any comments about it and we can explore together the upcoming changes. Thanks! --CuBaN VeRcEttI (Contact) 17:06, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for your message. I will support everything necessary. I'm already in contact with Game widow, she will help me.— »»Dove«« (talk) 12:20, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been talking with her about you and your wiki. ;) --CuBaN VeRcEttI (Contact) 16:53, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
