I just found this confusing note in the TW3 artbook (page 181):

“

Sirens are bloodthirsty, treacherous creatures that lure naïve travelers in close with their illusory female forms and then, when escape is impossible, transform into hideous monsters and tear their unfortuante victims to shreds. These creatures are commonly confused with mermaids, which are in fact a mostly peaceful race of underwater humanoids. These are quite easy to distinguish, however, because the more deadly sirens have large, bat-line wings that lift them into the air and fold up when swimming.

”

That means, the authors intended to differentiate mermaids and sirens. So Sh'eenaz can't be listed as a notable siren then? Is it really found in Sapkowski, or it's another ambiguous mess that game writers pulled themselves in? — Gilrond ^(talk) 02:58, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

I'd say it is confusion they've created, but you can check (and when i have a moment, i will check) the Sapkowski story (A Little Sacrifice) to see which word he used. However, making a separate mermaid page would hardly be the end of the word — Game widow ^{( talk )} 13:11, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

It looks like translation mess to me. I just checked the Polish version of the artbook, and there the description is more sensible:

Syreny

Krwiożercze i podstępne syreny ze Skellige, zwane także nixami, wabią swym niewinnym wyglądem naiwnych podróżnych, by w ostatniej chwili zaatakować nieszczęśnika i rozedrzeć go na strzępy ostrymi szponami. Istoty te mylone są nagminnie z prawdziwymi syrenami, będącymi w gruncie rzeczy raczej spokojnym ludem. Łatwo można je odróżnić po parze błoniastych skrzydeł, która umożliwia im dość sprawny lot, a złożona nie przeszkadza w pływaniu. Tworząc projekty drapieżnych syren, inspirowaliśmy się wyglądem ryb morskich z rodziny ptaszorowatych, zwanych popularnie latającymi ry- bami, posiadającymi silnie rozwinięte płetwy piersiowe, umożliwiające im

I quess this problem comes from Polish, where we use word "syrena" for both mermaids and sirens. — SMiki5five ^(talk) 13:17, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

I have heard that sirens in the official translation are called "mermaids". How about making separate article called Mermaid (or Merman) for those more intelligent? — SMiki5five ^(talk) 23:04, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
