poleaxe

Polearm is a general term for any weapon which consists mainly of a long pole on which the main fighting part of the weapon is placed. They are typically made of wood and extend the user's effective range. Spears, glaives, poleaxes, pikes, guisarmes, halberds, and bardiches are all varieties of polearm. Polearms were generally considered the arms of the peasantry as most of them evolved from strapping existing farm implements to long poles.
