He was born in 1979 and now lives in Warsaw. He graduated sculpture in Academie of Fine Arts in Poland, where he learned strong traditional fine art skills. Before Bartek entered the game industry in 2005 he worked in an advertising agency and found this was not the right profession.
Prior to CD Projekt RED, he worked at Polish developer People Can Fly. He spent two years at People Can Fly and worked on some unpublished project, which was canceled. Bartek joined CD Projekt RED in 2007 to work on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
In 2011 Bartek Gawel was rewarded with the fifth place at the international "Dominance War IV" contest, an annual Game Artist Competition where (game) artists from all over the world present their best works online to become World Champions.
